BackgroundEdit

The first episode of "An Unearthly Child", the first ever Doctor Who serial, aired one day after Kennedy's assassination. Consequently, the broadcast was overshadowed by the news coverage of his death, which delayed the beginning of the program by eighty seconds. At the time, "The Mutants" was in the production of its second episode and the news of Kennedy's death created a general atmosphere of grimness for the rest of the day's filming.
